The process of identifying the applicants from your applicant pool who best meet the required and desired criteria and who you want to move forward into the next step of your recruitment process, which is typically some form of interview, is referred to as shortlisting. Shortlisting is a step in the process of recruiting candidates. In other words, compiling a "short list" of prospective employees with whom you would want to speak. After sourcing (identifying) potential candidates, the next step in the recruitment process is shortlisting those candidates for interviews and other evaluations. Screening and shortlisting are typically done at the same time. For example, while you go through the resumes of potential applicants, you choose the best ones to go on to the next stage.
